Today we celebrate the visionary who reshaped the very language of art. From the Blue Period to Cubism, Picasso dared to see differently — and made the world do the same. 💙💛
Here’s to the master who reminded us that rules exist only to be reinvented. 🖌️

🎨 His full name had 23 words -
Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno Crispín Crispiniano María Remedios de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz Picasso.
🎨 He could draw before he could talk
🎨 He completed his first painting at age 9.
Titled Le Picador, it depicted a bullfight scene
🎨 He was once suspected of stealing the Mona Lisa.
In 1911, Picasso and poet Guillaume Apollinaire were questioned by French police. They were both released — but it added to his legend.
🎨 He constantly changed art movements. From Realism to Surrealism, Neoclassicism to Cubism, Picasso didn’t belong to one style — he invented several.
🎨 He was a prolific artist — creating over 147,000 works. That’s roughly two works per day for most of his life.
🎨 He had many pets- a monkey, a goat, a turtle, and his beloved dachshund named Lump, who appeared in several of his artworks.
🎨 He was a poet and playwright, too.
Between 1935 and 1959, Picasso wrote over 300 poems and two plays
🎨 He never threw anything away- (paintings, sketchbooks, broken sculpture) believing every fragment had potential for rebirth in future work.
🎨 His most expensive work at auction.
Les femmes d’Alger (Version O), painted in 1955, sold at Christie’s New York in 2015 for US$179.365 million, setting a world record at the time.

$💥NEW to the Gallery... Through his technique of ‘artistic liberation’ Izaak has taken a classic ’The Great Wave off Kanagawa’ by Katsushika Hokusai and put his signature stamp on it. 🌊 This iconic imagery has been reimagined countless times since its genesis. Here, Izaak has transformed the artwork into an almost cartoonish version of the original through softening and warming the colour palette. Despite this, the ferocity of the subject matter still beckons, with the looming wave threatening to crash down on the boats attempting to escape its grip. 🖼 This painting is on display in our Ilfracombe gallery, open every day 10am til 5pm.
