Annette Rydin was born in Sweden and now lives in Dorset. Annette studied for a BA (Hons) in Theatre Design and spent two years at the BBC before running her own design and prop making company which created installations for shopping centres and large department stores across the UK.
Annette then followed a varied career as a commercial sculptor in London, producing sculpture for a diverse range of projects including movies, theatres, museums and theme parks. Her clients included Tussauds, Disney, The National Trust, and Shepperton Studios where, amongst other things, Annette made the armour for Russell Crowe in the film Gladiator.
Now, Annette is sculpting pieces for herself full time. creating her pieces in clay and then mould.
“I have plans for some more pieces in the Tien Ma (Heavenly or Celestial Chinese Horse) Collection, and also sister pieces inspired by Ancient Egyptian Gods. I have become fascinated by the symbolism of these cultures, and wanted to express my contemporary version and also pay homage to the Ancient ideal. An ideal we should, perhaps, embrace more in today’s world…”
Annette casts and finishes each piece herself and displays her work in several galleries across the South and South West.
